Privacy Policy
Family Quote Board (“the App”) is a private, invite-only mobile application for recording and sharing memorable family quotes. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can request deletion. The App is operated by Flat & Square at familyquoteboard.com.
Who the App is for
The App is intended for adults who manage a shared family board. Children may appear as “quoted people” (for example, with a name and optional birth month/year used to show age), but sign-in accounts are for invited adults or caregivers.
Information we collect
- Account information from Google Sign-In: email address, display name, and a Google account identifier used by Firebase Authentication.
- Membership data: your role on the family board (Viewer, Contributor, Manager, or Owner), invite status, and join timestamps.
- Family content you or other members add: quotes, quoted people’s names and optional birth month/year, colors, and related metadata.
- Invitations: invitee name, email, role, and expiry for email-bound invites.
- Technical data: standard Firebase / Google infrastructure logs needed to run authentication and the database securely; install/runtime identifiers used by Expo Application Services for over-the-air updates; and Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics diagnostics (app interactions, crash reports, and related device identifiers) used to keep the App reliable and improve it. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs in the App.
How we use information
- To authenticate you and enforce invite-only access and roles.
- To sync family quotes and people across signed-in devices.
- To send or display invite links/codes so others can join your board.
- To understand how the App is used, diagnose crashes, and improve stability and features.
- To respond to privacy or deletion requests.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads in the App.
Where data is stored / processors
Account and board data are stored in Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) on behalf of the App. Usage and crash diagnostics are processed by Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. Google acts as a service provider / processor for these services. Data is transmitted using encryption in transit (HTTPS / TLS).
Sharing
Content on a board is visible to other active members of that same family board according to their role. We do not share board content publicly. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security of the App and its users.
Shared boards and who controls content
A family board is the unit of ownership, not the individual member. Quotes, quoted people, and related content belong to the board they were added to, not to the member who typed them in. This works the way a shared photo album does.
If you leave a board or delete your account, your sign-in and your membership are removed, and the board's content stays with the remaining members. It is no longer linked to you. If you are the only member, the board is deleted with your account.
Owners control their board. Owners can remove members, revoke invites, edit or delete any content on the board, and delete the board entirely. If you are the only Owner, you must transfer the board to another member or delete it before your account can be removed.
Retention
We keep account and board data while your membership is active and the board remains in use. If you request deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal data associated with your account as described on the Delete my data page, subject to any limited records we must keep for security or legal reasons.
Board content that belongs to a shared board is kept for the remaining members, as described in Shared boards and who controls content above.
Analytics and crash diagnostics are kept on Google's standard retention schedules for those services and are deleted automatically after that period.
Your choices
- You can sign out in the App at any time.
- Owners/Managers can revoke invites and manage membership for their board.
- You can delete your account in the App under Settings, then Delete account. This removes your sign-in and is permanent.
- You can also request access or deletion by emailing privacy@familyquoteboard.com or using the data deletion request page.
Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children as end users. Sign-in accounts are for adults.
Quoted-person profiles may include a child's name, an optional birth month and year, and things that child has said. This information is entered by an adult member of the board, and that member is responsible for deciding what is appropriate to record about their own family.
The App can generate shareable images of quotes. When a member chooses to share one, the name and age shown on that image leave the App and go wherever the member sends it. Sharing is never automatic.
If you believe information about a child has been stored inappropriately, contact us at privacy@familyquoteboard.com and we will investigate promptly.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective” date above will change when we do. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
